Project chargeback

Attribute dataset capacity to productions, review calculated storage charges, and export statements for your billing workflow.

1.Access and scope

Open Chargeback. The current application enables this feature for Studio, Facility, and Enterprise tiers. All six Pillar roles can view it when the plan allows access; only Billing Admins and Organization Admins can save or remove allocations.

Chargeback uses dataset-level capacity metadata. It does not inspect media files or determine file ownership. These client storage statements are separate from your subscription payments to Pillar.

2.Map a production

  1. Choose Map Production, or Map to project beside an unallocated dataset.
  2. Select the storage node and dataset, then enter the client, project, and department.
  3. Choose the full dataset or a percentage split, set the storage tier and rate per TB per month, then save.
  4. Review the resulting allocation and unallocated storage. Check overlapping mappings and percentage splits against your agreements before using totals.

Context Mapping labels in Settings help describe storage; billable production allocations are managed on Chargeback. In the sandbox, mapping changes are temporary and do not create customer billing records.

3.Understand the calculation

The page uses the current calendar month to date in UTC. One TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. With usable history, the calculation integrates observed capacity over time and divides TB-hours by 720 (a standardized 30-day month), then applies the configured rate and any percentage split.

When no usable history overlaps the period, the current calculator falls back to the current capacity as a full-month quantity. This fallback is not a prorated historical measurement. Missing history, collection gaps, and recent mappings can therefore materially affect a statement; reconcile them before billing a client.

4.Review and export

Use the CSV export, QuickBooks-format CSV, or invoice preview. The preview lets you filter by client and print or download the statement. A QuickBooks-format export is a file for your accounting workflow; it does not automatically connect to QuickBooks, email an invoice, or collect payment.

Review client details, dates, currency, rates, rounding, and the preview’s payment terms before sharing. Calculated charges and the mapped-storage percentage are reporting aids, not collected revenue. Tax treatment and your client agreement need their own review.
